DUI
Rcently in the local news, TV, radio, and local papers, it was advertized that there would be several road blocks in place in the attempts to curb drunk drivers. So, for three days and nights, the local police were out in force. It’s an un-nerving sight to see on your way home, to the store, or where ever your going, to be driving down the road when you see enough red and blue flashing lights that they make the night skies glow. I myself was stopped twice in their fishing nets, sober of course, where I was asked to pull over, get a flashlight shone in my eyes and in the eyes of my daughter, by officers who would much rather be somewhere else rather than standing along the highway in the frigid temperature. There were road blocks with numerous officers at the ready, while other officers were pulling over anyony that they suspected. In the end, according to the local news, just over a hundred drivers never got to finish their trips.
I applaud the efforts made by the police in this endevour, who, have probably seen more than enough carnage and death caused by drunk drivers to last a lifetime. There are far to many innocent lives lost due to the recklessness of other peoples drinking and driving. Especialy when there are so many other options available, taxis, buses, or even calling a friend. The stats tell the story of just how many people are killed each and every year by some careless fool who thinks they are okay to drive.
